Plastic Girl: Evolution - Chapter 2

Day 2

The chapters of my Plastic Girl trilogy are titled as days of Eva’s discovery and interaction with a brand new species that will either bring her salvation or her extinction.

In the previous chapter (Day 1), Eva discovered a new worm-like species that seems to have been born out of plastic. By the end of that first day, she believed she had imagined life where there was only bits of plastic. Day 2 will reveal something even more fascinating.

She had stayed up very late so that her butterflies would be just as she had conceived them, except they would never fly, only sit on her table as if about to take flight. They would have to be good enough for Eva. The small green piece was all that remained of the plastic pieces she had brought to the cabin. She would never change him. He existed the way he was meant to be, already whole, and she desperately prayed for that version of him to come to life.

Monster of the Week is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

A great deal of this series involves the connections that we form with our families that last longs after they are gone, the connections we search for in others once lost. The rest of this series explores what might happen if our pollution and waste become part of us, and how Mother Nature might turn that connection into new life.

If you need to catch up, all previous content is available on the homepage. The weekly chapters will range from 5 minutes to a 40 minute listen. Just depends on how long the chapter runs.

Again, if you can wait, the series is available on ebook, paperback, and hardcover from all online retailers, to order from your local bookstore or library, and on my website www.wickedtreepress.com.

Monster of the Week
Plastic Girl Audiobook
Author Jessica Maison narrates a chapter a week from her ecopunk sci-fi trilogy, starting with the prequel novella, Plastic Girl: Evolution.
"Maison has crafted an enigmatic, surreal castaway tale that ultimately pays off with a suspenseful account of a fight for survival... An eerie and somewhat elusive SF tale that takes plastic recycling to the next level." - Kirkus Review
