Audio - Plastic Girl: Evolution - Chapter 10

Day 2,370

The chapters of my Plastic Girl trilogy are titled as days of Eva’s discovery and interaction with a brand new species that will either bring humanity salvation or extinction. Chapter Ten is Day 2,370. In this chapter, Eva creates an animal she has always feared while experiencing symptoms of The Wasting, the disease that wiped out most of humanity. As her island and the waters around it heal, Eva worries it might be too late for her.

Monster of the Week is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

If you need to catch up, all previous content is available on the homepage. The weekly chapters will range from 2 minutes to a 40 minute listen. Just depends on how long the chapter runs. Start with Day 1.

Eva decided to finish the snake and make one for the island. It was part of her commitment to facing her fears, a promise she had made to herself for her sixteenth birthday. Now, that her carved snake was finished, she laughed. He wasn't scary at all, just a creature that the world needed, a missing piece of the ecosystem.

A great deal of this series involves the connections that we form with our families that last long after they are gone, the connections we search for in others once lost. The rest of this series explores what might happen if our pollution and waste become part of us, and how Mother Nature might turn that connection into new life.

Again, if you would rather read the series, it is available on ebook, paperback, and hardcover from all online retailers. You can also order the books from your local bookstore or library, and they are available on my website www.wickedtreepress.com.

Wicked Tree Press Update:

I wanted to give you a small glimpse into the process of making this comic with Anna. I send her the script and we go back-and-forth until we end up with the finished page. Before we begin individual pages, we’ve already gone through a character design process so we’ve agreed on how each character will look, dress, and move through the world. Below is page 107 where two of our new characters are coming face-to-face with each other for the first time.

Monster of the Week
Plastic Girl Audiobook
Author Jessica Maison narrates a chapter a week from her ecopunk sci-fi trilogy, starting with the prequel novella, Plastic Girl: Evolution.
"Maison has crafted an enigmatic, surreal castaway tale that ultimately pays off with a suspenseful account of a fight for survival... An eerie and somewhat elusive SF tale that takes plastic recycling to the next level." - Kirkus Review
