I feel you if you are roasting this week! I also am happy for you if you are on vacation.
I’m from the north but currently live in sunny L.A. The heat is not my friend. It will be worse in a month or two. It’s hot here but, right now, it’s hotter in my home state of Michigan which seems backwards. I guess we all have to get used to it being hotter each year as temperatures rise.
The weather is definitely more of a phenomenon these days. I have an unpublished short story about climate scientists attempting to bring on extreme weather to help cool scorching coastal temps. I’m fascinated and terrified by the geoengineering occurring in the current day. My story is inspired by some real life projects and the movie Twister so a little serious but also with those summer blockbuster vibes.
Please comment if you are interested in reading something like that or reply to this email. I may share it here if I get enough responses.
I do have some cool collabs coming up. I’m participating in the Weather Reports event/anthology curated by
. I wrote a short story, also set in the scorching summer, that seriously tore a bit of my heart out. I truly sobbed after finishing it. I can’t wait to share more about the event and that story with you.Monster of the Week is teaming up with
’s History of Horror to feature Egyptian monsters. It’s always great to do an exploration of monsters with another writer.Since it’s roasting outside, I know you might need some inside reading.
Go with the heat and read about dragons:
There Be Dragons...
"People who do not believe in the existence of dragons are often eaten by dragons.”
Cool off with a dystopian modern-day Siren story:
A Stranger on a Strange Shore
For this week’s Monster of the Week, I’ve written a monster/apocalyptic short horror piece inspired by the sirens. I wrote a bit about these mythical wonders a few weeks ago.
Just a reminder, the libraries are excellent cooling and reading stations.
Finally, a little sneak peak for one of my panels at San Diego Comic Con 2025. It’s almost here. I’ll share more details on both panels next week.
I know you get a ton of emails, so you being here with me is a huge deal. Thank you!
I remember the G.I. Joe animated series mini-series where Cobra creates the Weather Dominator to hold world leaders hostage by threatening severe weather. They were banking on gaining millions in ransom. Now, Mother Nature unleashes the severe weather without profiting from it.
oof--Your weather reports story is a punch in the head.
