Necro’s plan is to get you a killer Monster of the Week journal entry featuring La Llorona from Mexican Folklore next Monday. So, for today, you’ve got me and a few Monster or the Week and Wicked Tree updates.
I am going to be chatting with Dave over at
tonight at 5 PM (PST). We are going to talk a ton about monsters, specifically our new ones featured in Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters: Origins #2 comic which has only two more days on Kickstarter. Be sure to pre-order today so you don’t miss out! This comic is a limited run kickstarter and convention exclusive item so this is the time to lock in your copy.We have dropped our thank you playlist to all backers, Monster on the Dance Floor. It is banger after banger from Frank. Once you back, check the last update for links. It will for sure cure the Monday blues.
Tonight, on Wine and Comics, I plan on talking more about Barg the black dog, Tamamo-no-Mae the yōkai/kitsune, and Eino the Firefox. We’ll dive deep into the whole crew at the School for Monsters, including Necro! We’ll be talking all things comics and wine in general! I hope some of you can join us for this live convo. Here is the link to use at 5PM.
For another upcoming Monster of the Week post, I’m researching Filipino monsters. The artist I collaborate with on my Pistil comic has told me a few horrifying stories told to him as a child, and I’m hooked. The monsters are terrifying! At Wondercon this weekend, I had a great chat with the founder of Diwata Komiks which I definitely think any monster lover should check out. They focus on mythological creatures from indigenous Philippine folk religions. I picked up one of their Carnel comics (pic below), and the creature featured in it is beyond spooky. Another friend had told me a version of this creature’s story camping which kept me up that night, and I can’t wait to share it with you all very soon.
Please let me know if you have any strange creature or monster you want Necro and I to add to our list!
