Catchphrases:

“There’s always room for regret.” or “I will eat your soul!”

Gaki are yokai. Yokai are a class of supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore. Gaki’s origins are linked to Hinduism’s pretas or hungry spirits. Preta were adopted by Buddhist, Taoist, and Chinese folklore into their own hungry ghosts. There is also a hunger god, hidarugami, that is associated with the Gaki in Japanese folktales. Yokai are fascinating. If you want to learn more about them, I suggest checking out manga legend, Shiguri Mizaki. He has many amazing, illustrated books and manga about yokai.
